Make a decent attempt to fit in with the mature people on campus. Often keep their mouths closed until sophmore year.

Type 1 : Making loud siren noises at the lunch table Type 2 : Dude, can you shut up? Type 1: Heeeellll naw. You wanna go? Upperclassmen steps in and proceeds to beat the shit out of freshman 1. Most of the freshman I'm talking about are usually in the 9th grade in high school. Type two: Quiet, respectful, kind souls who only want to go to school and go home.

They hate the type one kids since they make the freshman name bad, and end up beating their behinds. I'm gonna sleep with, like, the entire football team! Andrea type two : please shut the hell up, your the reason why that upperclassmen hate us, and your just being a thirsty thot. Just because you are a freshman, doesn't mean you are all that. Jackie: Whatever, you stuck up prude, I'm gonna be the envy of all the hot upperclass men and girls are gonna hate me because I'm more prettier them, and I'm going to rule the school!

Yelling at ninth graders in public when they get an unwritten social rule wrong. It takes more than just a one-time lecture about responsibility. What is required is an ongoing training program by trustworthy adults to specifically practice handling complex yet common situations. The legitimacy of new student welcome programs depends on the preparedness of student leaders to handle and advise the actual problems of being a new student, not in the pairing of seniors and ninth graders only to play name games.

This year I will work with several student councils and new student orientation programs. Freshmen are only allowed to sit in the back of any games. If they do we can tell them to leave and yell at them. How could this be? Though those classes were enjoyable, I wish my advisor had stuck to the basics, at least until I was a sophomore. By year four, you start to learn why colleges are multibillion-dollar institutions: They milk every possible cent out of boosters, parents and students.

This could be anything from miscellaneous fees, registration or move-in requirements or even unrealistic expectations regarding how much a student is going to need.

For example, as a freshman, the sports pack is all but thrust directly in your face, asking you to buy the football-basketball ticket combination. Students are led to believe that without it, getting a ticket to any event is nearly impossible. This, however, is nowhere near reality. The entire point of college is to be an experiential preparation for the intended field of work students want to enter.

But this seems to be rarely the case. Overall, graduating college is an overwhelming experience — especially if you feel wildly unprepared to enter the working world. But regardless of how many of our peers seem to have their lives together, this is all a facade.
